Paleo Friendly Christmas Pear Square

This is my all time favorite Christmas treat. To me, nothing even comes close to creating the flavours and textures that cause the pleasure centers in my brain to fire off in spasmodic ecstasy…

OK, a little bit dramatic, but you’ll understand what I mean when you make these.

Of course, these were originally steeped in gluten and scads of refined sugar when I made them back in the day. However I have revisited this recipe and re worked it to be very Paleo Friendly.

And it’s Christmas… Indulge a little 🙂

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil or Butter
  • 1/4 cup Honey (unpasteurized, local)
  • 3/4 cup Tapioca Flour
  • 1/4 tsp Vanilla
  • 3/4 cup Macadamia Nuts (raw)

  • 8 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup Honey (unpasteurized, local)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 14 oz can Pear Halves (drained and sliced)

  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. In a food processor, combine all of the Crust ingredients and process until smooth. If it is too runny, add in a bit more Tapioca flour.
  3. Press the “dough” into a greased 8″ square pan lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes, or lightly browned.
  5. Remove from oven and let cool on a rack.
  6. Increase oven temperature to 375°
  7. In a food processor, combine all of the all of the Filling ingredients  and process until smooth.
  8. Pour over the crust and smooth out evenly.
  9. Arrange the sliced pears evenly over the top of the batter.
  10. Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon over the top.
  11. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the center is softly set.
  12. Remove from oven and let stand for about an hour.
  13. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before cutting into squares to allow it to set.
